What happens?

Thieves are exploiting a weakness in locks on uPVC and composite doors. This vulnerability also affects most apartment flats and some wooden doors. Shockingly, 95% of burglaries Danum Locksmiths attended in Doncaster involved snapped locks. This highlights an urgent need for better security, and people should consider using anti-snap locks.

People call the lock a “barrel.” Its proper name is “euro cylinder.” It is primarily brass, a soft, rust-free metal ideal for making a long-lasting, low-maintenance lock.

With a few tools and some knowledge, someone can break the euro cylinder lock in half with minimal effort. From the outside, it seems secure to everyone. Once you remove the outer half, you can access the lock. This renders the multi-point lock useless, and the door unlocks with little effort. This method is simple, effective, and quick.

How can we stop lock snapping?

High-security snap-proof locks are now available. You can’t snap these brilliant locks in the same way. But they provide extra protection. Thieves also have other ways to bypass the locks, but these anti-snap locks have stopped them. You can’t pick, bump, or drill them without specific drills. These drills are for locksmiths only and take time and make noise. Thieves avoid noise at the risk of getting caught.

Our choice of anti-snap locks is the WXM plus high-security lock, the flagship lock from Brisant and the leader in the field.

Do anti-snap locks cost an arm and a leg?

No is the simple answer! We price our snap-proof lock package at £210. This includes three Ultion locks: one for the front door, one for the back or side, and one for the patio or French doors. This price includes removing your existing locks, fitting Ultion locks, and servicing the doors afterwards. If you don’t need three locks, give us a call. We’re happy to quote for one lock.

Is lock bumping and lock snapping the same?

These two terms are totally different, and though lock bumping is on the increase, it is not as great a threat as snapping… yet!

Lock bumping is a lock-picking technique for opening a euro or rim cylinder lock using a specially crafted bump key. A bump key must correspond to the target lock in order to work correctly.

The lock bumping technique can make it easy and fast to break into homes without needing special equipment or leaving any sign of forced entry. It works almost as well as actually having a key. A set of 10 lock bumping keys can open 75% of joint euro locks and almost all basic euro locks are vulnerable to lock bumping.
